Local Battersea brewery Sambrooks have recently started supplying The Candlemaker with their wonderful real ales. To celebrate, they caught up with manager Simon Duddington for a chat...
Can you tell us a bit about the history of The Candlemaker?
The Candlemaker is a new pub, opening Nov 2012, we’ve taken influences from the 60s, 70s & local Battersea Candle making history and infused it into a great place to hang out with friends, have fun but still experience quality food and drink bridging the gap between formal restaurant and traditional boozer.
What is the best thing about your pub?
The best thing about the pub is the people – staff and customers.
What do you think makes the Candlemaker stand out as a pub?
Fantastic interior, great staff, great food, great ales & good fun!
What are the best and worst bits of your job?
The best bit is working with a great set of people and having fun whilst we work.
The worst bit emergency toilet repairs/unblocking.
What sort of events and evenings do you have at the Candlemaker? And what would you say is your most popular day in the pub?
Monday is our Quiz hosted by comedian Christian Steel
Wednesday is Swing/Gypsy Jazz night
Friday & Saturdays we have a range of DJs rotating weekly and they are also our busiest days in the pub.
How did you hear about Sambrook’s and why did you choose them as a supplier?
We opened 3 months ago and a local chap was drinking at the bar and said ‘You know you have a really good brewery literally round the corner?’
We said ‘Really?!’
The rest is history.
Do you have a favourite beer out of the Sambrook’s range?
Sambrook’s Pale Ale
If we were to buy you a drink at your bar what could we get you?
